Question by desiree_jade410: how do i look up a race horse’s back ground?
my friend is renting a house, her landlord has 5 horses on the property. (2 mares, and 3 fillies) one of the mares has a numbered tattoo on the inside of her upper lip, and was once registered to the maine standard bred breeders and owners association. the only thing we know about her is she has never had a saddle on her, and she was a racer. how can i look her up to find out her name, and past history?

Start here: www.ustrotting.com/usta/transfer.cfm. about 3/4 the way down the page there is a place where you can look up horses by tattoo numbers, you can take it from there
Hope this helps . . . . .

I think it is ABSOLUTELY stupid in thinking rodeos are cruel!! they don’t KNOW what REALLY goes on! They only pay attention to the parts they think are cruel when there is an accident (which is seldom caused by the cowboy-pretty much never caused by the cowboy in the rough stock). When the horses get injured it’s normally their own fault.
the PRCA does have rules that prevent cruelty! My dad has been in the PRCA since the 80′s and a stock contractor for a long time. I know the rules I know what really goes on. I’ve spent countless hours at rodeos and with the stock. When it is a PRCA rodeo, they DO have rules.
people think the flanks are cruel. GUESS WHAT!??! they’re not! the outside is leather but the inside is padded and can have NO sharp objects or stuff like that.
Now tie-down roping (calf roping) is not the best but it’s not to terrible. What’s worst is steer tripping (only allowed in five states!) and even worse is mexican bull riding! which is only allowed in mexico and has NOTHING to do with the PRCA.
still thiks it’s cruel? read this

so what do you think? Do you agree with Buck the rodeo?
or the prca who knows how it really is?
